It’s been announced that the Orioles have traded Greg Zaun to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later. That also means it could end up being cash considerations. The Orioles lose a solid veteran in the clubhouse by letting Zaun leave, although his contract only had him signed through
the end of the year with an option for next season. Chances are that Zaun would have probably taken an opportunity to go to a club that would allow him more playing time.
While it’s tough to watch a player leave town who generates so much respect from teammates and fans, it’s nice to know that he’ll be playing for a contending team.
With the roster spot opening, the Orioles called up Chad Moeller from triple-A Norfolk. He was batting .209 with the Tides in 33 games. Moeller began the season with the big league club but was the odd man out when Matt Wieters made his major league debut.
There have been rumors that the Orioles may try to make some waiver wire moves, and while nothing has been confirmed, names such as Aubrey Huff and Melvin Mora have been tossed around. Stay tuned.
